Murray Feiss Chandeliers

To look at some of the most lavish and grand of the Murray Feiss chandeliers available to anyone today, you might this company had actually invented the light fixture given the attention to detail and use of top quality materials.  However, Thomas Edison had perfected his light bulb and given birth to electric light fixtures several decades before the very first Murray Feiss light fixtures were even made.  In fact, the company did not originally start out to make lamps, wall sconces, or even chandeliers at all—they got their start by sewing together lampshades.

Murray Feiss himself was actually off fighting in WWII when his mother Rose started to pass time by sewing together lampshades in her cramped Bronx apartment.  With the war completely transforming the nation and drastically reducing the availability of new light fixtures, Rose started sewing lampshades to help extend the life of existing fixtures.  As you might imagine would be the case when no one could buy any new light fixtures—the demand for lampshades was huge!  By the time Murray returned home safely from the war, his mother was coordinating a veritable cottage industry of mothers and housewives sewing lampshades together in the Bronx.

After the war, however, the nation did return to making household goods like couches, chairs, dinette sets, and yes, even light fixtures.  Seeing a real opportunity to turn his mother’s cottage industry lampshade making operation into a real light fixture empire, the company began importing fixtures and then adding their own wiring and lampshades.  The combination was an instant success with the popularity of Murray Feiss desk, table, and accent lamps rising steadily during the following years.

This family owned and operated business still has a large facility in the Bronx but has continually remained committed to making the best light fixtures possible—one at a time.  Murray Feiss chandeliers may today be among the very top in their industry, but the company and its humble origins keep this family operation grounded and committed to continually producing the best light fixtures possible.  Just a few of the many lighting options now available from the company that originally started making lampshades include:

Chandelier Lighting
Vanity lights
Wall Sconces (interior and exterior)
Torchieres
Ceiling Fixtures
Casual Lighting

For over three generations, the quality and innovation trademarks common to all Murray Feiss light fixtures have continued to help these lighting masterpieces stand out from the crowd.  Though the company started out small, consistent hard work, quality made products, and award winning designs have helped Murray Feiss rise to the top of the lighting industry with some of the finest fixtures on the market today.
