Tiffany Chandeliers - Illuminating With Sophistication and Style

Original Tiffany Chandeliers, lamps, and other light fixtures made by the famous studio founded and owned by Louis Comfort Tiffany are now commanding six figures and beyond at all of the world’s finest auction houses.  It was actually Thomas Edison who first suggest to Tiffany that he marry electric bulbs with his revolutionary new Favrile glass and create lamps and light fixtures for the home.  In 1895, Louis Tiffany began producing his elegant glass art lamps and developed over 300 different styles, including chandeliers, over the next decade or so.

Chandeliers made in the Tiffany tradition are comprised of shades made out of hundreds of hand cut pieces of artisan glass.  To actually form the final pattern of the shade and chandelier, the individual pieces of art glass are bonded together using a process originally developed by Louis Tiffany—known as the Copperfoil Production Method.

Every single piece of glass on all genuine Tiffany lighting fixtures made using this time-honored technique is first affixed with a priming agent and then a bonding element.  Then, the copperfoil is attached to the edge of the glass until it completely surrounds the piece.  To bind the pieces together, solder is used and then a classic patina is applied to give each chandelier and Tiffany lampshade an authentic and aged look.

A large part of the allure of Tiffany lighting fixtures is due to the subtle and relaxing ambiance created when the incandescent light passes through the art glass and bathes the surrounding décor in soft hues.  This atmosphere is created by all genuine Tiffany lamp reproductions made using high quality artisan glass and joined together using the Copperfoil Production Method.

While quality made Tiffany chandeliers will indeed become the focal point of any living room or dining room décor, the decorative impact will be even greater if the fixture is complemented with table lamps, wall sconces, or even buffet lamps that also feature accentuating Tiffany lampshades.

It is important to pay attention to the material(s) used to make the base and accents on the chandelier because they must coordinate with those on other fixtures in the space.  Thus, if your chandelier features a Hanginghead Dragonfly design complemented by polished brass accents, then the lamps and other light fixtures should feature the same design and polished brass finish.

As with any light fixture, chandeliers included, you will want to make sure that it is proportional to the surrounding space.  If you have a vaulted ceiling and a very vast living room, then your chandelier or central ceiling fixture should not be dwarfed by the surrounding space.  Similarly, it is improper to use a massive chandlier or flush-mount ceiling fixture in the foyer or entryway as it will be an imposing monstrosity in a small and enclosed space.

Tiffany chandeliers and light fixtures are indeed some of the very finest options one can choose for illuminating your home.  The artisan glass softly diffuses incandescent lighting while creating a soothing ambiance in the surrounding space.  Just be sure to complement any Tiffany ceiling fixture with complementary table lamps and other supporting light sources to better unify the interior and lighting schemes while creating an inherently superior and more professional look.
